Lost review for February 21, 2008
Wow. I have to say. The show is really kicking it up this season. We learned quite a bit. Here it is in no particular order.
1) We now know the "story" the rescued are using. 8 people survived the crash in the water (this would then mesh with finding the plane parts on the bottom of the ocean). 2 people died, and 6 stayed alive, mainly due to Kate's efforts.
2) We now know another survivor - Aaron, which means Claire didn't get off the island. Boy he turned out ugly too. (Ok, I'm biased.)
3) Miles knew that Ben had access to money. Now this is important - and confusing. Ben was a nobody on the island back when Dharma was there. He then slaughtered everyone. But he somehow maintained access with the outside world, and has resources where 3.2 million wouldn't be a problem. Of course, 3.2 is kind of an odd number. Even Ben laughed at it. But what if it was a message? What if Miles is Ben's man on the boat, and the number has some significance?
4) Something on the island is impacting people's minds. The girl from the boat was testing the science dude. He was trying to determine what cards were on the table. Now at first I assumed this was an ESP test. But... something seemed off. What if it was a memory test instead. What if the island is "dumbing" down the science guy. His reactions just made me feel like it was something along those lines.
So outside of that - we get a flash forward of Kate and her trial. Frankly this didn't interest me that much. It wasn't bad, but, meh.
Oh - and I continue to love Locke. When he put the grenade in Mile's mouth - when he told Kate that he would have shot her if it were a dictatorship - it just cemented the fact that Locke is the absolute best character on the show.
1. How does the chronology of Kate/Jack/Aaron fit? The show made the implication (in the scene where Kate gets in the cab) that Aaron is being presented to the public as Kate and Jack's kid. Now, Kate could't have delivered after being rescued for obvious reasons. The Marshalls and the courts know that Kate didn't get on the plane with a kid, too. So, she would have have to have conceived Aaron AND delivered him BEFORE being rescued.
How long have the Losties been stranded? I thought it was like 2-3 months. Looks like it would have to be AT LEAST 9 months now for the public to believe Kate was the real Mom.
2. Anyone watch the recap episode from 8-9 EST? The "pop up" notes on the screen noted that Ben's secret room with the suits, cash and passports was in JULIA's house, and NOT Bens! So either she didn't know it was in there, or Ben and Julia have a connection beyond her getting hired for fertility research.
3. This episode reinforces my comments here on the last episode - they Ben works for a US gov't agency. He has access to cash, intel, * A SUBMARINE! *, etc. I think Ben shared his knowledge of the Island's powers to a unit in the US Gov't and has been acting as an agent of theirs, trying to learn more with the help of the Gov't.
All in all, this season has delivered quite well, IMHO!
Another thing, i may be late coming into this filmed 'clue' but does anyone know who the bearded guy is in the lab in the YouTube video with the #15 rabbit? I've drawn a shaky conclusion about the 'god loves you as he loved jacob' words, and i looked up the mentioned effect (a little over my head... but kinda like a close proximity magnetism?) and the building and boy riding a bike are too vague... but don't know the first place to find out who the bearded guy is (if anyone).
