Smoke Monster for the win! And not just the normal Smoke Monster, but the big giant one. Sweet. Ok, so as always, here are my observations in no particular order.
1) It was nice to see how Ben "snatched" Sayed.
2) It was also nice to see Ben kick some major butt. He not only has the psychological skills down he can also fight well.
3) When Ben went into the "other" room, not the first hidden room, but the other room, did anyone get a good screen grab of the door? It almost seemed Mayan.
4) The Smoke Monster has been described as a security system and it looks like it can indeed be controlled, somewhat. Ben seems to be able to call it, but he did seem to be worried about it as well. So maybe its almost like an animal - they can summon it and let it go wild, but they to be careful with it.
So the big thing I want to discuss is the Widmore/Linus conversation. Widmore said a few interesting things.
First - Ben couldn't kill him.
Second - He said he knew 'what' Ben was. Ok, that may not mean anything ominous (like Ben is a vampire) but that Ben is more than he seems.
Third - Widmore said Ben got everything from him.
Also - Ben made mention of 'rules'.
So what is the game? Ben has the Island, and Widmore wants it. We kinda new that already. But apparently the 'fight' has been going on for some time. I almost had the impression of two old business rivals.
Why was he dropped off in Iraq? They did fill in the back story of the relationship between Sayed and Ben. I liked this version better than thinking something happened on the island.
Maybe you can send folks to kill each other but they can't directly kill each other. Odd little twist.
Smoke monster kicked ass but he missed one - he shows up nextweek. Great episode, great show, keep them coming.
Also, I think that not onyl can't Ben kill Widmore, but Widmore can't kll Ben. Why not just blow up his house?
@ScottS: I don't think it's the transport that's cold - but that he may end up in a cold place. Think about it - you can end up in a cold or hot place. If you dress for cold, you can take clothes off.
Did anyone else catch the slight look of fear on the person's face at the hotel when she looked up his 'name' in her book?
That could also explain how polar bears got on the island. Maybe they stumled upon the 'transporter'?
And off topic - but geeze - were we really in Iraq back in 05? I didn't realize it had gone on for that long.
The Widmore / Ben conversation left me wondering if Widmore was captain of the Black Rock; and that Ben somehow stole the island from him.
I don't think I saw it mentioned on this blog, but an extra episode was added this season, bringing the total to 14, meaning the writer's strike only cost us 2 episodes. I've read some reports that call it a "3 hour season finale", although Wikipedia states it as an extra episode.
I'm really enjoying this season.
Weren't the guys listening for the signal for Penny in Siberia. And well, Australia is kind of self explanatory.
Secondly - don't they _always_ say Australia is the key in Risk? :)
