The Last Lost of 2008

Boy is that title depressing. Well, I just got done watching the season finale of Lost. While not as good as last year, it was very well done. As always, my thoughts here are in no particular order, but I want to start off with two main issues I have now with Lost:

1) The Oceanic 6 were trying to return to the Island when it moved. Now their lives are crap and they all have to return. Now while they did want to escape, especially Jack, they were trying to go BACK!

So what - they left the Island - and it's not really their fault - and the Island is making their life hell? That seems a bit unfair if you ask me. I mean whats the point here. The Island brings them down. The Island is a "place of miracles", but if you dare leave without permission you get screwed?

Maybe I'm taking this too personal - but the Island is really pissing me off here.

2) Claire is now... something. A spirit? Whatever - she seems to be one with the Island now. So why in the heck would she tell Kate (in a dream) to not bring the baby back? Maybe the whole "You all have to return" thing doesn't include the baby? If so... meh. I mean, ok, shouldn't be a big deal. Well, Kate has risen this child as her own - she basically adopted the child - and giving up the child would be just as hard as a birth mother giving her child up, so that could be a point of contention, but I really do hope that isn't the major thrust of the next season. If the theme is, "Jack rounding everyone up to return" I'm going to be a bit disappointed.

Ok, so random notes:

1) Locke is dead. Man, that sucks. It was bad enough when Ecco died, but Locke? Of course, even with his death he can be around for the rest of the show.

2) The "Science vs Faith" argument really came to a head. I loved Hurleys reaction when Jack refused to believe the Island moved. I also enjoyed the last discussion Jack and Locke had.

3) Time traveling bunnies. I love it. That whole scene was dead on perfect, especially Locke watching Ben put the metal objects in the room. I think we also got a really good idea about what Dharma was doing. They weren't evil per se - but they treated the Island like a science fair. The Island didn't appreciate that (hence the mass murder), but really their experiments now seem more silly then anything else.

4) There was a new fake commercial - Octagon something or another. I'm sure it will be on Lostpedia later. Anyone remember the URL? I guess it's another ARG.

5) Why would Sun want to help Widmore? The only possible thing I can think of is that she figured out Ben killed Keamy which led to the boat blowing up and her husband's death.

So.... this has been a good season I think. I like how the show is growing. I can't believe I have to wait till 2009, but I'm definitely hooked.

Raymond Camden's Gravatar Another thing - the room beneath the Orchid. Notice the hieroglyphics again? I wonder what the Egyptian connection is here?

Andy Matthews's Gravatar I'm just glad that they answered two of the more burning questions from the show.

1) Who was in the coffin.
2) How long had they been off the island.

The show was good.

Scott Stroz's Gravatar I loved this episode. By far they answered more questions than any other season finale. However, I am still not convinced that 2 seasons of Jack a) trying to convince everyone to go back to the island and/or b) actaully trying to find the island could be nearly as entertaining as the series to date.

Scott Stroz's Gravatar My thoughts on Sun. There are qite a few people who could be the other person she blames for Jin's death, but ultimately it boils down to Widmore. I think it is a ploy by her to ain his confidence somehow, and then destroy him.

Robert Owen's Gravatar Well, I sure was surprised to see that was Locke in the Coffin! I never would have guessed that. Although, I'd have to say he is/was my least favorite character. I don't think a whole season of them trying to get back to the island will be very entertaining. Much Less 2. Although I can't see them trying to live happily on the Island for two seasons more to be very entertaining either. Only choice I see is for them to kill the Island.

Jeffry Houser's Gravatar Jack insinuated that Sun blamed him for Jin's death; although I'm not entirely sure why he would be at fault. I wouldn't be surprised if Jin turns up on the island, still living.

I'm not sure what to make of the Sun / Widmore connection, yet.

I wonder of we saw the "flash forwards" at the end of the episode in chronological order. Perhaps Ben is already rallying the "six" to go back. Sayid got Hurley; Sun is playing an angle w/ Widmore.

The two alternate endings (one w/ Sawyer in the coffin and one with Desmond are easily found via Google ).

Robert Owen's Gravatar But Jin is alive... isn't he? Wasn't he in a flash forward a few episodes back... The one where he is trying hard to get the stuffed panda for someone who is having a Baby?

Andrew Matthews's Gravatar Robert...

The thought is that episode w/Jin and the panda was actually a flash back before he even met Sun.

Scott Stroz's Gravatar Correct...when in was getting the panda, he was still working for Sun's father.

charlie griefer's Gravatar excellent episode to cap off a great season.

not as good as last season's finale, but i don't think there's any way it could have been. for me, last season's finale was when Lost did a total reverse-jump-the-shark. the show had obviously become a mess and i was thoroughly convinced the writers had no clue where they were going. i was about ready to give up.

last season's finale was one of the few times that i was totally taken by surprise by a twist and completely blown away by it. this past season has really built on that. it's been back to "classic" Lost. twists, turns, but with a definite sense of cohesion. i feel like there's a definite plan in place and that everything that we've seen (this past season, at least) was there for a very deliberate reason.

every scene with locke and ben is worthy of an award. i LOL'd at the time travelling bunnies as well.

loved christian essentially telling michael that the island was done with him right before the boom.

looking forward to the next 2 seasons and hoping they can keep the momentum going.

oh, and most importantly... juliet is HOT. 'nuff said :)

Will Swain's Gravatar Well, I enjoyed that.

I suspect the next series will follow the same principle as this one - some of the 6 and what happened to them after leaving the island, some of what happened on the island after Ben 'moved' it and some on the 6 trying to get back. So plenty of Locke still.
