Lost is Found (Tonight)

Don't forget that Lost returns to TV tonight. The episode looks to be pretty darn exciting. I'll have my review up as soon as the episode ends.

Lost Review for March 20, 2008

This will be a somewhat brief review as I'm sitting in the airport and watched the episode half asleep. It was very nice to see a complete part of the puzzle (what happened to Michael) solved. I had forgot how good Michael's role was, and it's nice to have him back. Frankly, if my kid had been on that island and he had been taken away, I probably would have done the same thing, so I definitely feel for him. Now for the questions/observations:

1) The Other dude (I forget his name, but I love his character, the big guy) told Michael that Widmore is the one who faked the plane crash. I thought the boat captain said that Ben did it? Is that right? If so - then we have a mystery.

2) A minor thing - but if they dub up the bodies from Thailand, how is that the news report in one of the earlier episodes shows a white guy? Cuz the helicopter pilot recognized him and had just noted that he was missing a ring or something. Of course, there can be white people buried in Thailand, but still.

3) I liked that the Other dude referred to the Island. As you guys know, I keep saying that the Island itself is a force, a sentient force of some sort, and I think his words add weight to that. Especially with the power it seems to hold over people.

4) Sayid's reaction was great. Perfect.

5) Oh, and I'm so glad Ben's daughter's boyfriend died. He annoyed the heck out of me. But I'm sad to see the crazy French chick dead.

6) The Temple, I think, is one of the last places we haven't seen yet. For some reason, I imagine it Greek like - and perhaps related to the big foot statue we saw way back in S1.

7) The Other said that "some of them" can leave the Island when they want. As you know, there is some question as to the nature of some of the Others. Some, like Juliet, are definitely 'normal', but others, like the Latin guy (yes, I know I suck with names), may be something else since he appeared to Ben as a child. So I wonder if this is related?

That's it for me. What do others think? And thank god BSG is almost here!

Woah - was Lost on?

Yes it was - and I screwed up the blog entry. Sorry folks!

Lost Review for March 13, 2008

Sorry for the delay folks. I was playing Rock Band and Fall of Liberty.

Ah - the Koreans. I love it when they focus on the Koreans. Of course, I'm a bit biased towards them, and with this episode having a Korean baby, well that automatically makes it my favorite. Anyway, here are the things of interest, in no particular order.

1) We knew the plane crash was faked, but, I'm not sure we "knew" knew. I mean, maybe there was some metaphysical/magical way the survivors were there and dead on the sea floor. Anyway, now it's pretty much confirmed.

2) Who put a fake plane with a bunch of dead bodies on the bottom of the sea? It wasn't Windmore - and that really surprises me. If Ben did it - who is Ben working with? I still believe he is following the "Island", is a mythical/mystical/druid type funky way - following Jacob maybe. But I can't see how the "Island" could coordinate a fake plane with a bunch of death bodies. Not Dharma - they were too hippy.

3) So Jin's stuff was a flash back, and Sun's was a flash forward. I'm sorry - I just didn't care for that trick. It felt like a hack to me. I mean, we already knew that the folks who didn't get off are assumed dead, so we know that either Jin really died before the rescue, or Sun is using the grave site as a way to be close to her husband.

4) The scene with the girl jumping off the boat? Awesome. I loved the captain's reaction too.

5) So Michael is there. Scott called it. And I think we all knew it was coming. What does it mean though. Consider - both Sayed and Michael end up working for Ben. Could it be that they want to protect the Island? I don't buy it. I mean, sure, it would suck if Windmore turned the Island into Disney World, but would I kill to stop it? Would I go undercover on a boat? I don't think so.

6) Why aren't the people on the Island bugging the boaties more? I was happy to see Sun do it - but why aren't they all complaining? I mean - after 3 days it seems like it would be more then enough time to get things moving. Shoot - I'd have those 2 boaties tied up.

7) And where the hell is the Smoke Monster? Taking a breather? On strike? Partying with Paris Hilton?

Lost review for March 6, 2008

You know - in the old days, Lost worked like this: You would watch for 3-4 episodes to get one - one small, tiny, cool nugget of coolness. That one nugget would hold you for 3-4 more episodes until another nugget was doled out. This year they've turned that around and it seems every episode is chock full of goodness, even the episode last week that I didn't care for so much. So once again, here is what I took from the show, in no particular order.

1) The Whipers. The whispers were a big deal "back in the day", I think in season 1. I remember people recording and figuring out the words and it was pretty interesting. But it was one of those threads that were kind of dropped. Now they have returned. They seemed to involve both the arrival and departure of psychologist lady. I'm sure someone will transcribe the whipers, but I wonder what they mean?

As we know, Ben helped kill Dharma. Yet a bunch of people (the Others) are there. We know some are normal (Juliet), but we know at least one is something else (the Latin guy who appeared to young Ben and was one of the Others in current time). If the Others are ghosts/spirits (again, some Others), then the whispers may be involved.

2) Juliet referred to herself as an Other. Did you notice that? Was "Others" ever actually used in the show itself? I think maybe - but never by the people themselves. Maybe that was just a mistake on the writers part though.

3) When Ben asked if the bunny had a number on it, I lost it. Great line.

4) I think Scott said the guy on the boat working with Ben was Walt (is that right? I mean the father of the black kid). I definitely think that's right now, especially with the promo for next week talking about a face you thought you would never see again.

5) So we now know how the opposing forces (boat people) are - the work for Windore. (Widmore? Whatever. Names bug me.) And we have a motive. Greed. I buy that. If the Island is a miracle cure, I can easily see a corporation wanting to take care of that - and I can see the Island (remember, I still think the Island is some kind of conscience force) fighting against it.

6) Boat Chick - Ok, she is an archeologist, right? How did she get so comfortable with a gun. If you gave me a gun and asked me to knock someout out, I'd probably shoot myself. Seems out of place. Then again - we have Kate being such a good tracker she can note two sets of tracks and the time difference. So maybe I just need to let it go.

7) Ok, Jack likes Juliet. But why in the hell didn't he sit her down and debrief her. Like, "Tell me _everything_ about the Island." There shouldn't be any more surprises.

8) The scene with Ben walking past Hugo and Sawyer? Priceless. That man, and John Locke, have really made this show I think.

Lost Review for February 28, 2008

All in all - my least favorite episode of the season, but that's mainly because the other episodes were simple amazing. What really bugged me about this episode was the ending - specifically the 'lovers call'. When it began to cut back and forth between Desmond and Penny - I about barfed. I mean I get it - they have a great love - and it is important - but that scene was just a bit too cutesy for me.

So let's pretend it didn't happen and focus on the big reveals this week. One thing interesting about this season - it is really giving out the goods. You have to admit that. What did we learn?

1) We now know what's around the Island. Some kind of "storm" that causes a time distortion.

2) What's odd is that it doesn't seem to be time travel per se. It is more a 'conscious' time time where your brain travels. However - how does that account for the rocket being physically delayed? And the helicopter? That may be an issue of route. Perhaps if you travel the right route, you get shifted in time. If you don't travel the right route - you get 'breaks' like we saw in Desmond, and the other guy on the boat.

3) Hanso!! Black Rock!! (By the way, I'd kill for that painting.) We haven't heard Hanso since season 2, when Locked watched the training video, and the Black Rock hasn't really been around since season 1. (I may be remembering wrong - did Locke visit the Black Rock last year?) Anyway - it was cool to hear those names again, especially Hanso.

4) What's the guy from CSI doing on Lost, eh? Don't networks frown on that? (Talking about the doctor.)

5) Who is Ben's inside man on the boat? We didn't see too many people, so I think it has to be one of the men we saw.

6) This may explain a bit more about why only 6 people got off the island. I mean - if it takes a special route to get in and out, it could be very difficult to find. Note too the flippant comment of one of the sailors - something about being off Fiji 'last time they checked'. It has a Bermuda Triangle feel to it.

Did anyone catch the name of the boat? I think it was clear enough to read, but it went a bit too quick for me.

Lost review for February 21, 2008

Wow. I have to say. The show is really kicking it up this season. We learned quite a bit. Here it is in no particular order.

1) We now know the "story" the rescued are using. 8 people survived the crash in the water (this would then mesh with finding the plane parts on the bottom of the ocean). 2 people died, and 6 stayed alive, mainly due to Kate's efforts.

2) We now know another survivor - Aaron, which means Claire didn't get off the island. Boy he turned out ugly too. (Ok, I'm biased.)

3) Miles knew that Ben had access to money. Now this is important - and confusing. Ben was a nobody on the island back when Dharma was there. He then slaughtered everyone. But he somehow maintained access with the outside world, and has resources where 3.2 million wouldn't be a problem. Of course, 3.2 is kind of an odd number. Even Ben laughed at it. But what if it was a message? What if Miles is Ben's man on the boat, and the number has some significance?

4) Something on the island is impacting people's minds. The girl from the boat was testing the science dude. He was trying to determine what cards were on the table. Now at first I assumed this was an ESP test. But... something seemed off. What if it was a memory test instead. What if the island is "dumbing" down the science guy. His reactions just made me feel like it was something along those lines.

So outside of that - we get a flash forward of Kate and her trial. Frankly this didn't interest me that much. It wasn't bad, but, meh.

Oh - and I continue to love Locke. When he put the grenade in Mile's mouth - when he told Kate that he would have shot her if it were a dictatorship - it just cemented the fact that Locke is the absolute best character on the show.

Lost Review for February 14, 2008

Well - another good episode. So far this season has been strong and stayed strong. The focus was on Sayed, who apparently has turned into an assassin for Ben after leaving the island.

We finally begin to see Locke start to lose it a bit. Notice though that he found the line of... sand maybe? I remember that had been around the cabin before. So does the cabin move? Also - doesn't the line of sand remind you of what wizards use to keep devils/demons in line? That's probably a bit of a stretch, but I couldn't think of any other reason for the sand.

The other huge revelation was the scientific experiment. We got a major clue as to one of the mysteries of the island. Apparently it lies in the future. Kinda. I mean - the scientist dude was talking to the girl on the boat in real time. So the sound waves had no problem traveling, but the rocket was affected. It's also interesting to note that the time difference is minor - I think I heard 31 minutes. So it's not like they are traveling in time - but just that the island is... 'broke' from reality.

Did you notice how the man on the golf course reacted to Sayed? Almost as if he was terrible luck (which he was, of course).

As for Sayed working for Ben... I'm not sure what to think. I still think the bad guys are Dharma, and we know that the Island doesn't like Dharma (it ordered Ben to wipe them out), but I wonder why?

Oh - and Sawyer had a little screen time today - but it was very well done. Unlike Locke, Sawyer made a real case for why they could stay on the island. I was pretty darn impressed by it.

Any other thoughts?

Lost Review for February 7

Um. What the frick?

That was - without a doubt - one of the weirdest episodes I have ever seen. The "Crack" aspect of Lost is so thick in my bloodstream now I'm ready to sell a child or two.

This episode was so scattered my review is going to be scattered as well.

First off - I love Locke's question - what is the monster. That's the very first mystery we were given years ago and I loved that he asked that. I swear I had a geek woody for a second there when I thought they would actually answer it.

Secondly - this show switched back to flashbacks instead of flashforwards. We find this when we see the dead girl with tall black man, the man behind the team sent to the Island. I still think this is Dharma. Especially now that we know they are after Ben. The team being with Dharma would also explain why the anthropologist didn't freak out seeing a Dharma collar around the polar bear in the desert.

Oh yeah. What the hell was with the bear out there? Buried? We know why the polar bear was on the Island - it was part of their experiments.

Another point - I'm happy Locke's team is finally questioning Locke. I mean on one hand - he doesn't want to kill Ben in front of his daughter. On the other hand, he throws a knife into the back of that girl. Now - maybe he thought - they will kill us all - better I kill her first - but still - it doesn't fly with me and I think his group of people would have been a lot smaller.

Oh - major plot point. The wreckage is obviously fake, placed there by someone (I think Dharma). We know this now because of the missing ring on the pilots body.

Did I miss anything?

Oceanic Airlines commercial

Thursday night during Eli Stone, Oceanic Airlines ran an advertisement for a Golden Pass. The clip showed a man cutting into the video saying "You can't trust these people. Oceanic Flight 815, we found it." followed by clips showing the plane, including the tail section on the ocean floor.

The guy in the video is Sam Thomas and a site dedicated to finding out what happened to flight 815 is available at find815.com.
